How you can help?


What types of services are provided at T-LAC? T-LAC provides different types of help depending on the problem you have. For example, T-LAC can:
  • Provide consultation when you need information about rights or legal issues;
  • Facilitate or coordinate on your behalf to defend your legal rights, such as providing translators or services to recover lost documents;
  • Provide support for court processes which require legal practitioners or lawyers, such as adoption and custody rights, property, housing, and inheritance issues.
Am I eligible to receive legal aid? You may be eligible to receive legal aid to pay for a lawyer and related expenses if:
  • your problem is a result of the tsunami
  • you are poor, unemployed, and/or you have little or no money left after you pay for basic necessities like food and housing
  • you are a relative or a custodian of an under-aged person who was affected by the tsunami
Does legal aid cost anything?     Legal aid is FREE to people with little income and few resources. The staff at T-LAC will help determine if you qualify.
    If you do, legal aid will cover all of your expenses related to solving your case, including travel expenses and lodging if you must come from far away; court fees; paperwork and communication expenses; and others costs.
     T-LAC will assign a lawyer to you who will assist you with your case at no charge, even if you have to go to court. What can the lawyer do for me?     The lawyer’s job is to help protect your legal rights and make sure that you get what you are entitled to according to the law. Your lawyer will explain complicated legal matters, help fill out forms, speak on your behalf, and, if necessary, go to court for you. How can I get this help?     You can ask for the service through community justice volunteers, staff of local NGOs, or government officials such as the Damrongdhama Centers, Provincial Attorney’s Office, Mayor’s Office, district-chief officers, village leaders, and Tambon Administrative Organizations (TAOs). These people will refer your cases to T-LAC.
    In some areas, T-LAC staff will visit your community to receive cases and answer your questions.
    You can also contact T-LAC staff directly by telephone, fax, and email. click here What do I need to bring with me?     You should bring as much information with you as you can. This includes any documents related to your case such as an employment contract or hospital record; identification papers such as an ID card or house registration; birth, marriage, or death certificates; and evidence of your current income or a bank book. What if I have other urgent needs?     T-LAC can provide help with other issues that will affect your ability to pursue your legal case, such as medical or psychological treatment, and urgent humanitarian assistance, free of charge.
